Why Vampires are Better Than Zombies

Don't forget to enter my contest and help support a good cause at the same time!!

Now the post:

I know I'm going to catch some flack on this one, especially from you zombie fanatics out there. And I freely admit that there are the exceptional few zombies I find endearing. But they are relatively few and far-between. Why is that??

1. Vampires are sexier. Would you want to kiss a guy (or girl) with rotting chunks of flesh falling off? Doubtful. How about a hotty who's frozen in his eighteen-year-old body forever?

2. Vampires have an intact brain. Zombies are always trying to eat others' brains because they can't fill that empty, rotting (I'm thinking this word might appear quite a few times in this post) spot.

3. Vampires are scarier. Uh-huh, I went there. Seriously though, lumbering undead slowly plodding toward you to eat your flesh is scary, but not in comparison to the type of monster who hides in the shadows and can infiltrate your mind before feasting on your blood.

4. Vampires have better manners. Everyone knows zombies are just plain rude. Vampires can't even come inside without being asked.

5. Vampires are SEXIER. I know, I mentioned it already. But seriously - you tell me which one is more attractive??

I rest my case.

  3. I'm going to have to agree with you too, Lisa. I don't mind a zombie story but I have a really hard time believing in a zombie romance.

  4. Laura - He! Thanks. The best one I've read was the short story in Zombies V. Unicorns. Love Will Tear Us Apart. Which is brilliant. But that's certainly not the norm. Vampires are inherently sexier.

  5. Case closed. Although throwing the hot Damian card out there hardly seems fair. ;) Not that I'm complaining!

  6. Yes. I have to agree. That is because Vampires are fast and fast is scary and scary is kinda sexy.

Zombies are slow and slow is just kinda boring.

  7. Heather - I throw it out every chance I get!!

Storyqueen - Yes, I find it unnatural when zombies go all fast. It works better when there's a steamy guy there suddenly, not a rotting corpse!

  9. The visual aids at the end really made your case! :)

  10. I agree with Susan! But I'm not into vampires so I don't really know--they scare me!

  12. Jen and Susan - thanks!

Catherine - But it's a more mature scary, don't you think?

  14. Well I couldn't agree w/ you more about vampires being sexier than zombies. Erik and Bill on True Blood have me buying the season's DVDs so I can watch 'em over & over again!

Now, as for #3. Here are 2 examples where zombies can be outright SCARY. In the British miniseries, Dead Set, the zombies are actually quite fast. & in the new series Walking Dead, the main character encountering hundreds of zombies at once in downtown Atlanta was extremely scary.

If anyone does find zombies sexier, I would think they'd be joking or the kind of person that needs a 3rd option!

  15. Notes - Thanks for the great comment. Hmm, wonder if there's such a thing as a zombie fettish?

  18. Yep. Honestly, I can't understand all the fuss about zombies in YA novels. They are not interesting creatures at all IMHO. I don't why so many people choose to write about them. To be fair, I did read INFINITY-The Chronicles of Nick by Sherrilyn Kenyon and the zombies were kind of funny. I enjoyed the book, but funny is not sexy...Lol...There are probably other good zombie books out there, but I can't get past my lack of interest in rotting flesh to try them out unless I have to to write a review.

I may be wrong, but I suspect zombie-laden books are because of the huge paranormal trend; people ran out of ideas for a new creature and the zombie just seemed to be a handy choice, then it became a trend of it's own.

Whatever the reason, zombies are disgusting, as you've noted above. They are both figuratively and literally "lifeless"--ugh! (usually) Nice to get some confirmation here about this topic. Thanks Lisa!

Now that I've said this, I'll probably read another zombie book and absolutely adore it! Isn't life grand?...LOL...LOL...I'm keeping an open mind!...LOL...

  19. June - thanks for the support! I read that book too. Zombies can certainly be written well, and I may very well eat my own words. But so far I still find vampires far more appealing - in more ways than one!

  20. Well, I suppose it is all on what movies/shows you watch and what books you read. Neither are sexy (at least for me.)

  21. This post made me laugh. I have to agree with your reasoning too ;)

  25. Hahaha...you're funny. Thanks for the link.

Vampires are sexy. I give them that. I mean, I'd totally hang out with a vampire over a zombie any day. But come on--shiny vampires aren't scary. A rotting, smelly, blood drooling zombie is. Make the zombies fast moving ones and holy cow--terrifying. Vampire with red eyes, not so much.
