Playlists
Do you write to music? Some people can't write without it. Some can't stand the distraction. Me? I like to find songs that make me think of my book or more specifically my characters in some way. I thought it might be fun to share with you all some of my personal playlist for THE BINDING STONE. See if you can guess why I picked some of these songs.
King of Anything
Half of my Heart
Whenever Wherever
Genie in a Bottle (duh)
Jar of Hearts
Here are a few songs that inspired WINGING IT, which I hope to share with you in the coming year.
Rhythm of Love
Firework
Dynamite
It feels weirdly personal to put this out there. How funny! But you know I love to share. When I write I like to listen to music, but the truth is I kind of block it out and into the background. It's more of a feeling than a conscious plan.
How does music work for you when you write?

Sometimes it's inspiring, but it can be a distraction. One time I was singing away to a song and ended up typing the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteI really, really WANT to listen to music while I write, but I can't. Maybe some soft classical, but that's about it. On the other hand, I find myself inspired by songs while not writing in a way that later informs my writing...did that make sense? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Jess. I find lyrics distract me from my own words. Instrumentals, on the other hand, seem to,work as long as I keep the volume low. I'm so jealous of people who can come up with these awesome playlists!
ReplyDeleteI don't or I end up dancing or lost in the music. I have no self-control! I do like to think about the story to music though.
ReplyDeleteI tend to put my iTunes on low and shuffle. Having it there helps my bouncy brain stay focused. Silence is too scary! :)
ReplyDeleteI always listen to music when working on my projects. Not only is it inspiring, but a great way to keep me awake, since sometimes I don't have quite enough energy to be creative for long, haha!
ReplyDeleteMusic fuels my writing. I pick tracks to set my mood for important scenes, I listen to music I feel fits my WIP while I go to and from work, I have a playlist that I listen to while I write. In fact, I find a lack of music to be the distraction. Music keeps the rest of the world out.
ReplyDeleteI do playlists for my books, too. I usually listen to it before I write, to help get me in the mood. If it's orchestral, I'll sometimes listen while I write though. I just can't have other words in my head while trying to write my own!
ReplyDeleteI MUST have music. I love collecting songs for an MS playlist. Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, especially the acoustic version) is the love theme for my latest MS.
ReplyDeleteI'm at the opposite end of the writing to music types. I love music just not when I'm writing. Hmmm. Must have to do with how differently we're wired.
