I had to make the painful decision 2 months ago to put away a beloved manuscript. So much about this business is subjective and about luck and timing. Publishers and agents aren't likely to take many chances on anything they aren't 1000% sure of or in love with. That doesn't mean our novels aren't good or that we're bad writers.
